This week we discuss the 2016 film The Void in all its gruesome glory. We spend a lot of time talking about writing, character presentation, and editing choices all in relation to conveyance and the ability to make the unbelievable believable. Joey once again presents a theory about the film that takes it into the “it was all a dream/vision” territory. And we talk about how effective or not that “pyramid” scene is.
In this episode, we discuss the 2018 film Annihilation, from director Alex Garland. Spoilers, we love it! We present multiple theories and try to answer some of the major questions the film presents. We end up with more questions than we started with, including a bombshell of a theory presented by Joey that made Josh question everything he thought he knew about the film!
Welcome to episode 0! We preceded our backlog of pre-recorded episodes to debut the podcast with our discussion of the film The Lighthouse, directed by Robert Eggers. We discuss gaslighting, butt-flap pajamas, Willem Dafoe as a lighthouse, whether or not there really is enchantment in the light, and how much of the film’s events actually happened vs how much simply took place in a character’s head. Strap in and join us for our informal and chaotic unpacking of the film and our first impressions.
